Last week I realised how long it had been since sharing a current make-up favourites or routine (if I’ve even published one at all!). This is the face I’ve been putting on before doing anything mildly important (which is not a lot). It’s also mostly the make-up I’m wearing in my latest selfie, which you can see in the sidebar. Read on if you’d like to know what I’ve been enjoying putting on my face this month – don’t forget to tell me what you’ve been loving!
Since Spring sprung and quickly developed into summer-like weather (although on and off) I’ve been enjoying a lighter base, much like everyone ever.
The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is an oldie but a goldie and is constantly reminding me that I need to try out more Bobbi Brown products – note to self! It’s comfortable on the skin, last a good portion on the day without touch-ups and has SPF 15 which is a lifesaver since I haven’t picked up a separate face SPF yet… I know, awful.
Paired with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15, and buffed in with the expert face brush (and beauty blender) my skin looks far more even and unblemished, although the lightweight coverage allows my skin to breathe and doesn’t harvest any further imperfections! The pairing gives me a fresh but semi-matte finish, which has to be my favourite on the matte to all-out-dewiness scale.
I set the dewier parts of my face with the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder, something that I’ve loved for at least a year now and I’ve finally hit pan! It does the job for my t-zone and provides a smidgen more coverage – if you’re one of the few who hasn’t tried this out yet, get on it.
To then finish my cheeks off, I bronze myself up a little (a lot) with NARS Laguna bronzer – which is officially my most used product, like ever. I treated myself Christmas 2014 with this beautiful palette, and although the blushes go rarely used (whoops – another note to self) Laguna is my jam. In all honesty, I don’t think I got bronzer before this palette; now I am forever in debt to NARS (and I need to pick up another ASAP).
Above the dreamy bronze, a few dabs of this Topshop Highlighter in Crescent Moon – a creamy feeling highlight on the skin, with incredible pay-off and longevity (especially for such a budget product!). The warmth of this highlight really compliments my paler skin in the summer; I feel it really brings out the tan that I have very lightly caught (on you know, applied from a bottle…).
After my going blonde(r) moment – which you can catch up on, here – I needed a lighter and cooler eyebrow shade. Since I loved the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Auburn, I figured I’d probably love it in Blonde too. I do like it, and although it’s probably less than I expected, it does do the job and it stays in place.
To add some fullness to my freshly shaped (but still a little sparse in the ends) brows, I’m a sucker for Benefit’s Gimmie Brow! I’ve gone through tubes of this stuff and it has been a brow game-changer for me. It adds fullness, the right kind of cooler tone to my brows and it is literally fool-proof to apply – You basically coat your eyebrows against the hair, and then smooth over in the direction of the brow to reveal your (kinda) brand new brows – genius!
On the eyes I’ve completely fallen for my MAC shadows again. I’ve compiled a few I love into this versatile quad and I’ve found a few eye looks from it. All That Glitters and Patina make up my go-to more-than-a-swipe-of-colour eye, whilst Soba and Naked Lunch can be built into a more dramatic and smoky eye look.
I’ll tell you the truth… I’m actually a little scared about how much money I want to spend on MAC eye shadows, just because I was a really good Instagram photo. I know, I’m mad and I will learn to control myself – promise.
Mascara called for my (less than a month old, so) new purchase, Maybelline’s Lash Sensational. I picked this up over my usual The Rocket Mascara because I’d heard great things, and a friend (who has great eyelashes anyway) was wearing it beautifully. It’s alright. It does a nice job and will probably do a better job in a month when it’s a little drier – but right now I’m missing The Rocket quite a bit…
Velvet Teddy from MAC has been the main thing gracing my lips over the last month. It’s once too brown tones now compliment my make-up look and hair colour very nicely, making me look almost chic and sophisticated… almost. Velvet Teddy has a matte finish but wears a little worse than other mattes, making it difficult to touch up. This doesn’t bother me though; it’s a great medium-wear nude-toned lip that means I can finally join the Kylie Jenner lip club.
Things that aren’t make-up are my perfume, Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 and Essie’s Mint Candy Apple. I’ve talked about this fragrance tonnes and tonnes, so I won’t bore you again. It is awesome. You’re welcome to read more in-depth reviews, here, here and here.
The muted vibrancy of Mint Candy Apple is to die for. I’d never really been into the colour mint previously, but after applying this to hands and feet a few weeks ago I can’t bear to switch to anything else. It’s seasonal and summery and compliments my pink/nude toned make-up look lately.
