Red Lipstick Additions

If you’re the type of girl who can never seem to resist a new red lipstick I have a feeling we’d get on like a house on fire. The countless times I’ve told myself ‘No more reds!’ But then very quickly come home with yet another coveted red lip, which, I have to swear to everyone is different enough from the last shade of red I bought to be worth it… That does bring me down to my love for each and every lip bullet I own, no matter how drying, teeth-grabbing, or similar it is to it’s neighbour. I’m a red lip obsessive, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The most loved of the the trio is (yet another) NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, in the shade Dragon Girl. A pinker shade of red, quite dark for the spring/summer but with an unforgettable formula. For me it’s quieter than a full, bright, bold red, and works well for semi dressed-down evenings and events. One of my best friends wears this shade quite often – if it looks as good on me as it does on her then I’m onto a winner!

When times do call for a full-bodied red, nothing seems to blur all imperfections and make itself the centre of attention quite like the shade Lana from the NARS Audacious lipstick line (listening to Lana Del Rey and pretending you’re cool is an optional extra). Satin finish lipsticks took me a few wears to get right, but after a few lipstick-all-over-the-teeth moments I’m liking them! The colour is vibrant (in this case a beautiful orange-red vibrant) but the sheen gives lips a natural fullness and feels lighter (but in my opinion lasts as well as those tugging matte shades). The whole Audacious range has my heart in a flutter – almost seems like there is too much choice…

We’ve ended up in an order that goes from highest opacity to lowest, although it’s debatable whether this next bullet could even be considered a full blown lipstick. Lipstick Queen is a brand that never stood out to me until I read That Grace Girl’s brand focus on the roots of Poppy King’s idea. Quite honestly, I fell in love with it, and not soon after I’d scooped up a shade (I’ll call it a reward for getting through another day). Saint Scarlet Red is a sheer, classic red, with the consistency of a thick lip balm meaning the colour isn’t massively long lasting. I possibly haven’t given it a long enough test run, but my verdict is still undecided!

Well there it was. A slightly rambling description of my most recent lipstick obsessions. I’m sure it won’t be long until another is along…
