Spring Lipstick Wardrobe

The warmer season this year has arrived with a bang. Last weekend the sun was out and temperatures rocketed to the mid to high twenties, easily making us forget that it’s still only May, the last (and second best) month of spring.

Since it is so easy to get carried away thinking it’s the height of August, I’ve disciplined myself to stick with springier colours on my lips, the brighter of the bunch transitioning well into the summer months.

Here’s my spring lipstick wardrobe for the season so far:

Stockholm is a shade that is great for everyday wear, masking lip imperfections and adding neutral and natural tone to the lips. In the same camp is NARS Lip Pencil in Descanso – a satin formula is creamy on the lips and provides just enough coverage and oomph to make you feel less lacklustre.

When I’ve been feeling like a pretty flower in the fresh air and sunshine (or even in the comfort of my bedroom) I’ve been enjoying having pink lips. Since my hair change up, going for an ombre/balayage blonde – which you can read about here – has meant I suit pink and rose shades a hell-of-a-lot more. Welcoming my old favourite back 228, a muted pink-coral from the L’Oreal Colour Riche range, has been a dream – it’s creamy and light on the lips despite it being a matte finish. It might actually be the perfect spring lipstick… big claims here.

Antwerp 05 from the NYX Soft Matte range has also been around – much brighter than I was expecting, but still very wearable and most of all, pretty. A darker side of the pinky-toned lips is Dragon Girl from the Matte Lip Pencil range NARS do. This one is more evening appropriate, and works better with a cheeky smoky eye thrown in. Dragon Girl is one of those shades I think suits everyone a perfect balance between pink and red, and suitable for warmer and cooler months.

Okay. Now we’re onto the could-be-summer lipsticks… Time to over-excitedly get those maxi dresses out and crack open the muted neon nail polish!

Lana is an orange-red from the NARS Audacious Range – it’s probably the lipstick that reminds me of summer most. Bright, but far enough away from fluorescent to be workable day and night, satin finish that’s super comfortable on the lips, and it’s called LANA (I’m a huge Lana Del Rey fan lolz) – if you’re into your bright reds, this needs to be in your collection.

Talking about bright reds and having lipstick collections… Lady Danger by MAC is another staple (who am I kidding these are all staples…). Almost neon and fluorescent on the lips – it’s a showstopper. I’ve finally got more comfortable wearing this, and that’s coming from someone very comfortable with red lipstick. It took me a while to get here, but it’s so worth it. Dousing down the neon and upping the orange is the NARS (so much NARS!) Matte Lip Pencil in Iberico – basically a true orange that comes with the rule: You can only wear at barbeques and balmy nights in Greece.

Although I made that rule up I think it’s pretty applicable to the vibe this lipstick gives out – hot weather, mojitos and fabulous sunsets. You probably need it…

So they’re my eight lipsticks of the season (eight seems like a lot in hindsight).

Tell me what’s in your spring lipstick wardrobe this year! I’d love to know (because I’m a lipstick addict and need to add to the collection – hehe!)
