Twenty-Sixteen: Travel Goals

travel-goals-2016 Twenty-Sixteen: Travel Goals
Both twenty-fifteen and its predecessor have been years of little jaunts of travel and adventure followed giant sparks of wanderlust (I’m not a particularly big fan of this word, but this is it’s time and place). Now it’s twenty-sixteen and there’s a whole load more travel on my to-do list, it’s almost as if I’m obsessed with planning my next excursion or something…

Travel somewhere hot…

Although I’ve never dealt particularly well in the heat (read: I don’t seem to function when Britain has a heat wave), a strange thing happened when me and my best buddy jetted off to Crete last June: suddenly I didn’t seem to mind that my hair straighteners were over 1600 miles away, or that my pre-holiday fitness plan hadn’t worked out (it didn’t exist in the first place). Laying by the pool and taking a swim in the ocean, being bikini clad whilst sipping very brightly coloured slushies and having three platefuls of dessert every night was the dream! Then walking across the beach as the sun set and proceeding to sit out on our balcony having cocktails… soon it all felt very second-nature. Although I may not be in need of a break (have I mentioned the last four months…), my daydreaming mind is firmly set on sun, sand and Santorini (but we’ll have to wait and see).

Travel somewhere cold…

I’ll make it clear that I mean cold by reputation, which means I’m talking about Scandinavia, yes, again. There is no doubt a link between it being the first place I really ‘went’, and it being the place I keep needing to go back to. Stockholm (see how beautiful it is for yourself), Copenhagen (revisit my photo diary!) and Aarhus have all been ticked off (some several times) but I can’t wait see them all again – along with Norway, Finland and Iceland. Top of my Scandi Must-See list is Tivoli in Copenhagen, the Oslo Opera House, and basically all the pretty things in Iceland (but mostly The Blue Lagoon). Fingers (and toes, and everything else that can be) crossed that I can manage a couple of these this year.

Travel somewhere local(ish)…

Visiting my best buddy at The University of Edinburgh in October is one of my favourite memories from 2015; as you can imagine it was mostly filled with catching up on gossip, napping and deciding what/where to eat (the answer was always burgers at a burger place). Even though I had some cultural spots on my to-do list they’ll now be pushed back for my next escapade over the northern border, of which I’m sure there will be a fair few to come!

Travel somewhere muddy…

It’s been years (and years and years) since I last spent a long weekend covered in mud and chilling out to (mostly) great live music amongst beautiful scenery. Kendal Calling was a firm festival favourite for three years in a row, and I’d love to revisit the fields in 2016, as well as some other fields. Pretty fields of course, with music and plenty of alcohol.

That’s my 2016 travel goals/must-go/see/do list so far, and now whilst the adult in me should start making a proper living so I can tick a few of these things off, the child in me wants to build the most expensive luxury holiday online, add it to my basket, then slowly close the tab. #daydreaming

Where do you want to explore this year? Hot, cold, or somewhere completely new?
